1877 Shield Nickel, PR66 Cameo
Proof-Only Key
1877 5C PR66 Cameo PCGS. Shield nickels were only struck in
proof format in 1877, when a small total of 900 proof examples was
produced. As might be expected, the issue is an elusive key to the
series and high-grade specimens are rare. This impressive Premium
Gem is among the finest survivors, with sharply detailed frosty
design elements that contrast boldly with the deeply mirrored
fields. PCGS has graded only nine numerically finer examples
