Superb Gem Cameo Proof 1877 Nickel
1877 5C PR67 Cameo NGC. In the years between 1876 and 1882, dates when the Philadelphia Mint produced multiple millions of Shield nickels, the denomination was utterly neglected. Total business strike mintages for the intervening five years were in the low six figures, with the first two years, 1877 and 1878, contributing nothing at all to the total.This is a Superb Gem Cameo proof representative of the former issue, which has the lower proof-only mintage of the two. Pale nickel-white surfaces are moderately contrasted on each side with a few small dots of greenish-gold border toning noted at the lower obverse. Census: 3 in 67 Cameo, 1 in 67 ★ Cameo, 0 finer (10/11).(Registry values: N4719)
