Proof-Only Key Issue
1877 5C PR67 NGC. JD-2, R.2. The 1877 Shield nickel is a
proof-only issue and key date in the series, with a mintage of just
900 pieces. Few survivors can match the quality and eye appeal of
the present coin. This spectacular Superb Gem exhibits razor-sharp
design elements and reflective fields, with no mentionable
distractions. Delicate highlights of champagne-gold toning add to
the outstanding eye appeal. In a circa-2000 holder. Neither NGC or
PCGS has certified an 1877 nickel in PR68 or higher grades
