Description
Superb Quality 1877 Shield Nickel
1877 PR 66 PCGS. Key date in the Shield nickel series, the 1877 is a proof-only issue with a mintage of only 510 pieces. This is one of the most attractive examples we have seen recently of this important date. The surfaces are toned a light golden-brown over both sides. The obverse fields show a moderate depth of reflectivity, but the reverse is shallowly mirrored. The only impairments we see on the surfaces of this coin are a couple of tiny planchet flakes out of the fields on the reverse. Population: 19 in 66, none are finer (5/96).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 276U, PCGS# 3831, GSID# 2925)
Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
