Description

1878 5C PR64 PCGS. A rare issue in the series, with only proof strikings and no business strikes. Although not as rare as its 1877 proof-only predecessor, demand for the date is strong and Choice specimens are eagerly sought. This example is semiprooflike and highly lustrous, with slightly deeper mirroring on the obverse. Well struck as expected, with a scattering of tiny marks on the reverse that determines the near-Gem grade.(Registry values: N991)
