1878 5C PR66 PCGS. A wisp of tan toning enriches this satiny and sharply struck Premium Gem. The coin is essentially devoid of contact or carbon, although a minor retained lamination (as issued) is noted near the first S in STATES. The 1878 is a proof-only issue with just 2,350 pieces struck, and while not as scarce as the 1877 proofs, it is often collected hand-in-hand with that proof-only issue.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 276V, PCGS# 3832, GSID# 2928)
