Pristine 1879 Shield Nickel, PR67 Cameo
1879 5C PR67 Cameo NGC. This is the variety with a tiny spike at the upper right part of the ball over the date, historically called an 1879/8 overdate, although such a determination is difficult to make. Today, some believe as this cataloger does, that the "1879/8" is merely a repunched date. Regardless, the present Superb Gem Cameo proof is a piece of beauty. It is fully brilliant and untoned, with deeply mirrored fields and excellent contrast via lustrous devices. Pristine surfaces are virtually perfect.
