Description

1880 Shield Nickel, PR67+ Cameo
Gorgeous, Conditionally Rare Example

1880 5C PR67+ Cameo NGC. The Shield nickel type was only produced from 1866 through 1883, and in this late year for the series just 16,000 business strikes were minted in Philadelphia, causing the 3,995 proofs to come under increased market pressure. This fully struck example is brilliant and well-preserved, with gorgeous jet-black fields and icy frosted devices. Splendid technical merit and tremendous visual appeal are combined in this conditionally rare specimen. Census: 23 in 67 Cameo (4 in 67+ Cameo, 1 in 67 ★ Cameo), 1 finer (2/14).(Registry values: N2998)
