Description
1880 5C PR67 Cameo NGC. A brilliant Superb Gem Cameo proof, with nicely mirrored obverse fields that display bold contrast with the frosted devices. The reverse fields have the often-seen "pebbled" texture from the stars inward, a diagnostic of proof coins. The rims are square and flat, and the edges are mirrorlike. The 1880 issue is much rarer as a circulation strike than as a proof, and the format is sometimes misidentified. This coin is most certainly a proof, and it is conditionally scarce given its high numeric grade. Census: 22 in 67 Cameo (3 in 67+, 1 in 67 ★ ), 1 finer (10/18).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 276W, PCGS# 83835, GSID# 2935)
