Description
1881 PR 62. An interesting Shield nickel for the specialist. While at first glance appearing to be a business strike with its dull surfaces, this is actually a proof as can be determined from the following diagnostics from the new (1995) Peters and Mohon reference: Obverse II: Top inner right berry is detached at 2:30. Left base of first 1 slightly right of center; right base of last 1 is barely right of the left edge. Reverse: Type D. "Some have a tiny rust pit on the thick part of 5 at right." (Breen).
