Description
1882 5C PR66 PCGS. CAC. The late-date proofs are usually used for type purposes in the Shield nickel series. In the case of the 1882, 3,100 proofs were struck, a sufficient number for type purposes, especially when combined with the 5,419 proofs from the following year. This attractive, dusky oyster-gray proof striking actually shows tiny specks of iridescent color when closely examined.
