High-Grade Last-Year Type Coin
1883 5C PR67 Cameo PCGS. Filling shows in many of the
peripheral obverse letters and both 8s in the date on this Superb
Gem Cameo proof 1883 Shield nickel, an attractive example of this
last-year-of-the-series issue. Thick mint frost, fine preservation,
and considerable field reflectivity account for the grade. The year
1883 was the "three-nickel year" in which one Shield and two
Liberty nickel types were struck. This is a great type coin.
