Superb 1883 Shield Nickel in Proof Format
1883 5C PR67 ICG. The ICG insert includes the attribution "NO CENTS," but this coin is definitely a Shield Nickel. The final-year 1883 is the most plentiful proof Shield Nickel in terms of total number of coins known. At the Superb Gem level of preservation, however, this issue is elusive. The razor sharp devices rise powerfully above moderately bright fields. Both sides are golden-gray in sheen with nary a distracting blemish to report.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 276Z, PCGS# 3838, GSID# 2943)
