Interesting Possible Overdate 1883 Shield Nickel, PR 67

1883 5C PR 67 PCGS. Breen-2525. Formerly offered as lot 7087 in our June Long Beach Sale, where it was described as, "Although unlisted in the 2000 Guide Book or on the insert, this overdate variety is found on proof examples as well as business strikes. The radiant, untoned surfaces display moderately reflective fields and razor sharp striking definition. As befits the grade, this Superb Gem is free of both detracting hairlines and contact marks. All but unknown finer." According to the consignor, this coin was at one time accompanied by a Breen letter that stated the date was a 3 over something, but he couldn't be sure what. Unfortunately, the letter has been lost over the years. We leave prospective buyers to judge for themselves.
