Description
Complete Date and Type Set of Shield Nickels
All the pieces are NGC graded except for the two uncertified coins and most are either gem or near-gem in grade. Included are:1866 Rays PR 65 NGC. Nicely reflective with light, even patina over each side. A few tiny specks of carbon limit the grade.
Rays MS 63 Lightly Cleaned, Uncertified. Sharply struck with murky rose-lilac toning. An affordable alternative to the very pricey proof of this design type.
No Rays PR 64 NGC. Very deeply mirrored with dusky golden-rose toning. A few small spots of carbon are noted on the obverse.
PR 65 NGC. Flashy proof mirrors and lightly toned with a light haze over each side. A few tiny carbon specks are seen on the horizontal shield lines.
PR 64 NGC. Light in color and very deeply mirrored, a few more obvious spots of carbon on the obverse prevent a higher grade.
PR 65 NGC. Subtle pastel toning covers each side. A larger spot is located on the lower horizontal shield lines.
PR 66 NGC. Deeply reflective and lightly toned, a couple of short milling marks are located at 9 o'clock near the obverse rim.
PR 65 NGC. Bright overall with a dusting of light patina.
PR 63 NGC. Nicely reflective and light in color.
PR 62 Lightly Cleaned, Uncertified. Dull, steel-gray surfaces, a carbon spot is conspicuously placed over the 7 in the date.
PR 64 NGC. Lightly toned.
PR 66 NGC. A lovely coin that is toned in an enchanting blend of olive-lilac and deep rose patina. One of the nicer pieces in this set.
PR 65 NGC. Deeply mirrored in the fields with frost on the devices that makes a cameo contrast evident even through the golden-rose colored toning. A few specks of darker golden patina are located over the shield, but there is only one noticeable spot of carbon, on the lower left juncture of the shield lines and vertical stripes. The key to the series.
PR 65 NGC. A very impressive example of this low mintage, semi-key issue. The devices are heavily frosted and the fields deeply mirrored, yielding the resultant cameo contrast that is so desirable and elusive on nickel proofs. Lightly toned.
PR 64 NGC. Well mirrored and nearly brilliant, the coin's grade is explained by several spots of carbon on each side.
PR 65 NGC. Well mirrored with ice-blue patina.
PR 66 NGC. A shallowly mirrored but essentially flawless coin that shows very little color.
PR 65 NGC. Moderately reflective and nearly brilliant, one spot is evident on the leaves on the upper right below the S in TRUST.
PR 64 NGC. Pale rose and ice-blue toning covers each side. Noticeably spotted.
A rare opportunity to acquire a complete date set of Shield nickels in such a superior state of preservation.
