Description

Brilliant Cameo PR65 1865 Three Cent Nickel

1865 3CN PR65 Cameo NGC. Breen-2412. Doubled Date. Traces of an underlying 1865 are plain to the left of the final digits. While this proof variant is not rare, the 1865 proof three cent nickel is a low-mintage key to the series. Only 500 pieces are estimated to have been struck, and this first year had a lower percentage of survivors than later years. This is a brilliant example that displays sharp contrast between the fields and devices on both obverse and reverse. The surfaces are free from any mentionable contact marks. Census: 10 in 65 Cameo, 19 finer (6/10).(Registry values: N4719)
