Description

Low Mintage 1865 Three Cent Nickel, PR65

1865 3CN PR65 NGC. The 1865 was the first year of issue for the three cent nickel, and only a small number of proofs were produced (estimated around 500 pieces). Far fewer are known today and many of those are cleaned or otherwise impaired, compared to the dates in the 1880s. This is an untoned example with nicely reflective mirrors in the fields, and there are no obvious or detracting marks on either side. Census: 57 in 65, 15 finer (9/09).(Registry values: N4719)
