Description

1870 3CN PR66 Cameo PCGS. CAC. The early years of the three cent nickel series all had low mintages in proof format. In 1870 the mintage "spiked" to 1000 pieces. However, this larger mintage did not translate into a significantly larger number of high grade proofs that were saved. Only six other PCGS PR66 Cameo pieces have been certified with none finer (9/09). This is a beautiful and powerfully impressed example whose vibrant powder-blue surfaces have a touch of pastel lavender here and there.(Registry values: N2998)
