Description

1877 Three Cent Nickel, PR65
Rarely Offered as an Ultra Cameo

1877 3CN JD-1, Low R.2, PR65 Ultra Cameo NGC. The Guide Book reports a 900-piece mintage but that figure may be too low based on John Dannreuther's research, where he believes 900+ proofs exist today from a total proof mintage numbering 1,100 pieces. This example displays needle-sharp definition on the devices that complements softly frosted luster, while the motifs contrast boldly against glassy reflective fields. Neither side shows significant toning and the preservation is outstanding for the grade. The 1877 three cent nickel is a proof-only issue. NGC Census: 2 in 65 Ultra Cameo, 0 finer (12/25).
