Proof-Only 1877 Three Cent Nickel
PR66 Cameo
1877 3CN PR66 Cameo NGC. This appears to be one of the
scarce overdates with repunching visible at the bottom of the 1 and
faint traces of a 6 to the left of the final 7. A proof-only date
and the key to the series along with the proof 1865. Only 510
proofs were struck. The field-device contrast is stark on each
side, but appears more so on the obverse with its near-absence of
color. The reverse shows light golden toning. An impressive example
of this key issue. Census: 45 in 66 Cameo, 15 finer
