Description

1877 Three Cent Nickel, PR66
Top-Notch Example of This Proof-Only Issue

1877 3CN PR66 PCGS. The key proof-only date in the three cent nickel series, the 1877 bears a date style that greatly resembles that on its more-famous cousin, the 1877 Indian cent. But the mintage of the 1877 proof threes was only 900 pieces -- far more than the cent, which was struck in proof and business strike formats. This reflective pinkish-gray Premium Gem shows much contrast on each side and a hint of ice-blue at the extreme rims, a thoroughly attractive coin. Population: 54 in 66 (2 in 66+), 3 finer (12/13).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 275X, PCGS# 3773, Greysheet# 2826)

Weight: 1.94 grams

Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
