Spectacular 1888 Three Cent Nickel, PR66 Deep Cameo

1888 3CN PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. With the second-highest mintage for a three cent nickel proof issue and a high survival rate, the 1888 is popular with type collectors. The typical proof for the year has satiny, swirling luster with little reflectivity, and even pieces found in Cameo holders often display indifferent contrast.
This stunning exemplar offers a wonderful exception to the rule. The boldly impressed devices display rich frost, particularly the broad, untextured areas of the portrait. The design elements create excellent contrast with the gleaming, fathomless mirrors. Both sides show only a touch of patina; a smidgen of tan visits Liberty's upper hair, and a single spot of milky toning appears to the left of the III but within the wreath. A small planchet flaw to the right of the date and a tiny depression on the cheek (as made) are the only possible distractions to the unaided eye. Population: 2 in 66 Deep Cameo, 1 finer (8/07).(Registry values: P1)
