    Description

NGC 1854 PR 64. Of the greatest rarity and importance as a proof. Proof three-cent silver pieces are usually only found with the Type Two design dated 1857 and 1858. Proofs from the earlier years are extremely elusive, and we have not handled an 1854 for many years. Struck from the normal date dies, die file marks are seen above TED on the obverse--a feature seen on several proofs of this date. Toned in deep shades of blue and scarlet with an occasional speck of brilliance. The fields are not what one would consider deeply reflective, but this may be due in part to the exceptionally deep color seen over both sides. Somewhere between 12 and 20 proofs are believed to exist today in all grades of this date. Population: 1 in 64, only 1 finer (12/94). (NGC ID# 5JR2, PCGS# 3701)

    Weight: 0.75 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
