    Description

Deeply Toned 1855 Three Cent Silver, PR64

1855 3CS PR64 PCGS. Most experts surmise that somewhere in the range of 30-35 proof three cent silver pieces are extant today of this very rare issue. It is most likely that all were issued as part of the copper-silver proof sets, meaning that perhaps as many as 50-60 sets were originally issued. Proofs of this issue show faint die file marks near STAT(ES O)F, and the digits in the date are prominently double punched with the original numerals too low. Each side is deeply toned with gray and blue patina being the dominant colors. Nevertheless, the fields are deeply reflective even through the dense toning and there is no question about the proof status of this piece. Population: 3 in 64, 5 finer (1/05).(#3702) (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 27C2, PCGS# 3702)
