Description

1855 Type Two Three Cent Silver, PR65
Scarce Pre-1858 Proof Issue

1855 3CS PR65 NGC. All denominations struck prior to 1858 are scarce in proof format. There are probably only 50 or so proof 1858 three cent silver pieces extant out of an unknown but small production run. The fields on this piece appear to have been heavily basined and as a result are highly reflective. Each side is brilliant except for a slight accent of golden peripheral color. The strike is bold, save for several of the obverse stars. Among the finest known of this scarce Type Two date. Census: 9 in 65, 5 finer (2/12).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27C2, PCGS# 3702, Greysheet# 3652)
