Desirable 1855 Three Cent Silver, PR65
1855 3CS PR65 NGC. Repunched date with the 855 showing clear doubling as always on the proof examples and virtually all of the business strikes also. Breen claimed that the proofs were struck first, and the business strikes came later with less of the repunching visible, although a business strike in the present sale seems to suggest otherwise. This wonderful Gem proof has exquisite gold, blue-green, lilac, and iridescent toning with fully mirrored fields and frosty devices. Census: 8 in 65, 5 finer (2/09).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27C2, PCGS# 3702, GSID# 3652)
