Description

Gem Proof 1855 Three Cent Silver
    Rare Pre-1858 Proof Date

1855 3CS PR65 PCGS. The proof 1855 is rare on two fronts. First, any proof struck prior to 1858 is a significant rarity regardless of denomination. Second, the Type Two three cent silver series is a short one, only lasting from 1854 to 1858, and the 1858 is the only reasonably available proof in the series. Perhaps 50 1855 proofs are known. The fields on this piece are brightly reflective, and the color is noticeably different on each side. The obverse has deep emerald-green around the margin with a rose-colored center. The reverse still retains much of the original brilliance despite speckled caramel-gold and aquamarine toning. Population: 3 in 65, 2 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 27C2, PCGS# 3702)

    Weight: 0.75 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
