Sought-After Early Proof Issue

1856 3CS PR65 NGC. The Mint did not begin mass producing proof coinage for direct sale to the public until 1858. The proof 1856 three cent silver mintage was unrecorded, and examples are scarce in all grades. This Gem representative displays reflective fields and sharp central detail, with only minor softness on the border stars. Blue-green, gold, and lilac toning is original. Census: 5 in 65, 3 finer (6/22).(Registry values: N4719)
