Description

1856 PR65 Three Cent Silver
Rarely Seen Type Two Proof Striking

1856 3CS PR65 NGC. It is estimated that 30-40 proofs survive of the 1856 three cent silver in all grades from an unknown original mintage. Pre-1858 proofs are all scarce or rare, and mintages/survivors are generally nothing more than estimates based on the numbers seen. Only three other Gem proofs have been certified of this date by NGC with two finer (6/11). The devices show the expected fullness of strike over each side. Both obverse and reverse are deeply toned in multiple shades of blue and golden-rose and the underlying mirrors still flash strongly through the significant toning.(Registry values: N4719)
