Description
1856 Three Cent Silver, Elusive PR65
Seldom-Seen Type Two Proof
1856 3CS PR65 PCGS. CAC. Scattered glints of copper-orange
appear on both sides with the obverse adding pale bluish-gray and
amber-gold patina to beautiful effect. Generous luster percolates
up through the moderate toning. This lovely Gem is among the
short-lived Type Two coins -- those showing two outlines to the
central star -- struck only from 1854 through 1858. There are few
marks for the grade visible on this coin, with a small, curving
lintmark in the upper-right obverse, below O(F), the most reliable
pedigree identifier. PCGS reports only six submissions in this
grade with two finer, both PR66 (12/14).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27C3, PCGS# 3703, Greysheet# 3655)
