Premium Gem Proof 1856 Trime
Among the Finest Certified

1856 3CS PR66 NGC. No official mintage records exist for the proof 1856 trime, but the production total must have been quite small. Walter Breen believed only 30-40 specimens survive in all grades, and the present coin is tied with one other example for finest certified at NGC (2/11).
This splendid Premium Gem proof exhibits faint lilac splashes on otherwise brilliant silver surfaces with deeply mirrored fields that frame its lustrous silver devices. Design elements are bold and carry a cameolike presentation on the fields. In fact, this piece may qualify for a Cameo designation, although no designation is currently on the holder. The fields show prominent die polishing lines that are usually encountered on true proofs. Few coins can match the appeal of this spectacular example.
