Variegated Array of Colors
Scarce Proof Strike

1856 3CS PR66 NGC. The three-cent pieces dated 1854 to 1858 have two lines bordering the the six-pointed star. Here, the smallest of all Untied States silver coins is imbued with a scintillating array of colors that grace the surfaces of this trime, ranging from apricot to steel blue to russet. The reverse appears bejeweled in areas of mustard, lime-green, and electric-blue, creating stunning eye appeal. About 40 to 50 examples of this proof issue survive, but the original mintage is unknown, as the Mint did not start publishing those figures until 1859.
