    Description

    1856 Three Cent Silver, PR66
    Phenomenal Eye Appeal
    Tied for Finest Certified

1856 3CS PR66 PCGS Secure. CAC. Breen originally thought that 30 to 40 1856 three cent silver proofs survived. It now seems likely that more than 40 but fewer than 50 specimens are extant. The discrepancy results from the lack of records kept before 1858, when the Mint began making proofs available to the public for face value. What is remarkable about this Premium Gem proof is that it is unquestionably among the finest known representatives. The fields are deeply mirrored with streaks of light reddish-russet patina over the centers on each side. Ice-blue toning encircles the margins, adding to the eye appeal. PCGS has only certified one other piece at this level with none finer (6/16).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 27C3, PCGS# 3703)

    Weight: 0.75 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
