Description

1858 Silver Three Cent, PR66
Sharp, Beautifully Preserved

1858 3CS PR66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Texas Trimes. The proof 1858 silver three cent was struck in unknown but small numbers. Perhaps 100 pieces survive today in all grades, mostly clustered in the PR64 to PR65 grades. The combined PCGS and NGC population of 209 representatives is highly inflated by resubmissions. This Premium Gem proof is high-end for the issue and conditionally rare. The strike is razor-sharp throughout, despite die lapping that slightly weakens the lower-left outline of the star. The fields are deeply mirrored with blended lavender-gold and sea-green toning. Modest cameo contrast emerges from the patina, although it is not stark enough to achieve a Cameo designation from PCGS. Population: 13 in 66, 2 finer (11/15).(Registry values: N4719)
