Description

1858 Three Cent Silver, PR66
Colorful and Fully Struck

1858 3CS PR66 PCGS. This glittering Premium Gem proof of the Type Two subtype comes from the first year that the Mint stopped striking proofs "under the table" for the well-connected and began what we think of today as mass marketing. The Guide Book gives an "italic guess" estimate of 210 proofs for this issue. Die striations running diagonally are as noted in the Breen proof reference, and the third I joins the leaf tip above, also diagnostic of proofs. This is a lovely, fully struck piece with aqua to pinkish toning on both sides, an impressive example of this important issue. Population: 11 in 66, 1 finer (1/14).(Registry values: N4719)
