A Splendid, Deeply Mirrored 1858 Proof Three-Cent Silver
1858 PR 65 NGC. An exceedingly rare proof issue in the series and an important coin as it is a Type Two. Breen estimates an original mintage of 60 to 75 pieces, many of which have been harshly cleaned. PCGS has certified only 12 coins in PR 65 with 10 finer, doubtless many of which are resubmissions. The fields are deeply mirrored and are adorned with red-violet and cobalt-blue colors. No hairlines or other defects are seen and this has to be one of the finer coins available.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27C5, PCGS# 3705, GSID# 3661)
Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
