Description

Rare 1863/2 Three Cent Silver, PR64

1863/2 3CS PR64 PCGS. Breen-2944. This elusive proof-only variety is designated in the 2013 Guide Book as a "so-called 3 over 2." Breen (1988) was more definitive regarding overdate status, and the slender diagonal line within the loop of the 3 does resemble the slant of a 2. Minor strike doubling on the date further complicates matters. Fully struck and nicely mirrored with rich blue-green, orange-red, and lavender toning. Population: 10 in 64, 7 finer (2/13).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22ZP, PCGS# 3713, Greysheet# 3709)

Weight: 0.75 grams

Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
