Description
Colorful PR65 1863/'2' Trime
Unusual Variety
1863/2 3CS PR65 NGC. While contemporary scholars have their
doubts about this variety's overdate status, that certain
"something" under the 3 in the date is present on this gleaming Gem
proof. Bold aqua-blue patina covers the obverse and the outer
reverse, while the interior on the latter side has a pale golden
hue. Both sides have cameo contrast unacknowledged on the old-style
holder. A sizable planchet flaw is noted just off the upper left
point of the star. NGC makes no mention of the variety in its
Census Report. From The Walter Freeman Collection of Three Cent Silvers.
