Description

1863/2 Three Cent Silver, PR66
Conditionally Rare

1863/2 3CS PR66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Simpson. This is a so-called overdate in the Guide Book, unrecognized in the Cherrypickers' reference. Examples comprise a minority of the 1863 proof three cent silver pieces certified at PCGS. This Premium Gem example is notably rare. PCGS lists only two other non-Cameos in this grade with a single Superb Gem finer. Several Cameo pieces in this and finer grades are reported as well. The Simpson coin displays sharp definition throughout the frosty devices, with deep reflectivity in the fields. Some die polishing weakens the recesses of the large C on the reverse. Sea-green, rose, gold, and russet-olive toning blankets each side. Population: 3 in 66, 1 finer (11/21). CAC: 1 in 66, 0 finer (12/21).(Registry values: P3)
