Description

1865 3CS PR65 PCGS. CAC. By 1865, the Mint had stopped producing circulation strikes for general commerce. Those coins are rare in high grades, and collectors frequently opt for a proof instead. Although only 500 proofs were struck compared to 8,000 business strikes, for the former are far more accessible. This Gem proof is richly toned in rainbow patina, except for the mostly brilliant central reverse. Totally original.(Registry values: N1793)
