1867 Three Cent Silver, Toned PR66 Cameo
Infrequently Seen in Cameo

1867 3CS PR66 Cameo PCGS. CAC. The minuscule production of 4,000 three cent silver business strikes in 1867, most of which were melted in July 1873, puts increased demand among date collectors for the proofs (as this cataloger is well aware while completing a set of three cent silver pieces). Moreover, relatively few Cameos are available from the more than 600 proofs of 1867 graded by PCGS and NGC (fewer than 15 percent are designated Cameo).

Soft russet patina clinging to the borders of this Premium Gem Cameo frames steel-blue in the centers, the color palette assuming slightly deeper hues on the reverse. Razor-sharp detail shows on the design elements, including the leaf ribbing and arrow feathers. Both sides have been well cared for and each displays pleasing field-device contrast. Population: 11 in 66 Cameo, 5 finer (3/14).(Registry values: N1793)
