Description
1867 Three Cent Silver, PR68 Cameo
Tied for Finest Cameo Certified
1867 3CS PR68 Cameo NGC. Breen (1988) indicates that most of
the 4,000 1867 circulation strikes were melted in July 1873.
Presumably then, date collectors exert added pressure on the
proofs, of which 625 were produced. The present Superb Gem with its
outstanding eye appeal and infrequently designated Cameo contrast
stands out as a fabulous opportunity for the three cent silver
proof specialist.Mirrored fields that display a melange of deep forest-green, aquamarine, electric-blue, and lavender toning accentuate the frosty motifs covered with light silver-gold patina, producing noticeable contrast over both sides. Razor-sharp detail appears on the design elements, and impeccable preservation prevails throughout. NGC has designated only three Cameos in this finest-achieved grade, PCGS none (12/15).
