Description

1868 Three Cent Silver, PR67
Low Total Mintage

1868 3CS PR67 PCGS. CAC. This Superb Gem proof Type Three three cent silver offers much visual appeal and technical quality. The lightly frosted devices are tinged with mint-green color and appear to float over reflective fields shrouded in blue and violet patina. Indications of post-Mint contact are effectively absent.

Population Data (4/15): PCGS shows three PR67 examples, while NGC reports eight submissions in the same grade. There are none finer at either service.

Heritage Commentary: The 1868 boasts a low total mintage of just 4,100 coins: 3,500 circulation strikes and 600 proofs. As such, it is one of the scarcest dates in the entire three cent silver series. High-grade examples in either circulation strike or proof format command significant attention when they appear at auction, and this lovely Condition Census piece is sure to do the same.

Provenance: Purchased from Legend Numismatics (3/2004).(Registry values: N4719)
