Description

1869/8 Three Cent Silver, PR66 Cameo
Finest Example at PCGS

1869/8 3CS PR66 Cameo PCGS. CAC. This is the finest-graded surviving example of this rare variety by a country mile, pictured also on PCGS's CoinFacts website at PCGS #83720 (6/13). This is a controversial variety; there are artifacts of "something" under the 9, although numismatists disagree about exactly what it is. This is a beautiful example, recently certified as the overdate by PCGS, showing copper-pink and jade hues in the centers with pale blue near the rims, and blatant field-device contrast throughout. An excellent example of the issue, whether for type sets, date sets, or a nifty odd-denomination set.
