Description

1870 3CS PR64 NGC. While business strikes approached obsolescence, proofs were made in larger quantity in 1870 with 1,000 pieces struck. Pinkish-gold and azure-blue toning show a few deep-gray accents over the reflective surfaces of this Choice proof. If not for the pervasive toning, the frosted devices would suggest a cameo designation. A pleasing, well-struck and carefully preserved example of this later date in the silver three-cent series.
