Description

1870 Three Cent Silver, PR67 Cameo
Impressive, Conditionally Rare Specimen

1870 3CS PR67 Cameo NGC. Well-contrasted, especially on the border-toned obverse, though the reverse retains a clear cameo effect through deep olive, sea-green, and blue patina. The relatively simple three cent silver design offers few opportunities to display striking precision, but features such as the shield within the obverse star and the olive leaves are crisper than usual, as are the reverse border stars. Most non-proof three cent silver pieces from 1863 on were melted in July 1873, making coins like this among the few available representatives of their issues and in high demand among date collectors. Census: 3 in 67 Cameo, 1 finer (7/14).(Registry values: N4719)
