Scintillating 1871 Silver Three Cent, PR67
1871 3CS PR67 NGC. The introduction of the three cent nickel was the beginning of the three cent silver's slow demise. While business strike production dwindled through the later Civil War and Reconstruction years, with many examples melted in 1873, proofs remained popular with collectors, and a handful of sublimely beautiful specimens have survived to the present day. This is one such piece, decisively struck with dappled green-gold and aqua patina that drapes each side. Even under magnification, the impressively preserved surfaces show only a handful of trivial faults.
