Description

Pretty, Toned 1872 Three Cent Silver, PR67

1872 3CS PR67 NGC. Although there was some overlap, the three cent nickel replaced the hated three cent silver (a.k.a. "fish scales") denomination, and certainly by 1872, when the three cent silver saw a proof mintage of 950 pieces accompanied by only 1,000 business strikes, the writing was on the wall. This pretty Superb Gem proof has pearl, gold, and lavender obverse toning, with sage and burnt orange predominating on the reverse. As expected, there are no contact marks of any import. Census: 8 in 67, 2 finer (7/08).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27CH, PCGS# 3723, Greysheet# 3703)

Weight: 0.75 grams

Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
