Description

1872 Three Cent Silver, Colorful PR68 ★

1872 3CS PR68 ★ NGC. The 1872 proof three cent silver has a mintage of 950 pieces and enjoys relatively high demand from date collectors, as only 1,000 circulation strikes were coined and most were melted after the denomination was discontinued in 1873. Proofs are available through the Gem level of preservation, after which the certified population tapers off. This PR68 ★ coin has attractive emerald, aqua, indigo, and violet patina across flashy fields and devices that supply a hint of contrast. Marvelously appealing in all respects and a true prize. Census: 3 in 68 (3 in 68 ★ ), 0 finer (1/14).
