Description

Brilliant 1873 Closed 3 Trime, PR65 Cameo

1873 3CS Closed 3 PR65 Cameo NGC. The 1873 silver three-cent pieces were only coined in proof, with a mintage of just 600 coins. Perhaps half of those exist today, mostly in grades below Gem. They were struck early in the year, and a considerable number of pieces were melted on July 10, 1873, according to information that Walter Breen published. This wonderful Gem is a brilliant and glittering proof with entirely untoned surfaces, displaying its full cameo contrast. Census: 11 in 65 Cameo, 15 finer (7/08).(Registry values: N1793)
